The foundation Montañas Verdes was established in 1995 and has been in active cooperation withe the local foundation Colinas Verdes, which has office in San Pedro de Vilcabamba. After a period of several years of inactivity Will Panman, Michael Moens and Melinda Hofmann re-started Montañas Verdes again. It’s objective is to protect El Bosque (protected forest reserve) and support Colinas Verdes with their local initiatives to protect nature and secure the provision of water from El Bosque for the local use.
